PICTORIAL ESSAY OF GLASS RING BEAKERS 16TH-19TH C

The ring-beaker started as a type of German beaker (Ringelbecher) decorated with attached glass loops from which are suspended glass rings.  They where made in Europe and England.  Click on the pictures below to enlarged them.

    Gosh, I have never seen anything like these before. Why was this done, other than it could be? Did the fashion linger? Was it purely decoration or did they jingle when used? Who did the washing up?

      Was it purely decoration or did they jingle when used? Who did the washing up? Both! The 19th century seems to be the end of this type of decoration. But I am sure someone is still making them.
