Ancient Glass Blog of The Allaire Collection

The diversity of the numerous, sometimes contrasting characteristics of glass created my fascination for it as a material. After having built up a collection of modern glass sculptures from modern, living artists (Chihuly, Libensky, Tagliapietra/Copier, Vizner, Fujita, Meitner, Zoritchak) I switched over in 1995 to collect ancient glass. Since then I built up a collection of over 300 objects, covering a period of over 1,500 years, from the 7th century BC till the 6th century AD. Almost any technique, application, tooling, decoration, colour and form that existed in this period of time is represented in the collection, that can be seen on the site http://www.blurb.com where I published my catalogue.” Link to catalogue http://www.blurb.com/b/1782488-fascinating-fragility
